Main office "Initiative Leichtbau"
How can Germany become the market leader in lightweight construction and how can the different players exchange their knowledge efficiently and across a wide range of technologies?
Nationwide bundling of innovative technologies
Modern lightweight construction is of central importance to the German industry since it represents an enormous potential for the future of the economy. At the same time, it creates challenges in a number of sectors that need to be coordinated across the board. The Lightweight Construction Initiative was established as part of the development of this project, which was funded by the Federal Ministry for Economic Affairs and Energy. We run the office of this initiative in which we consolidate all significant activities and are available to industry and research nationwide as a central point of contact for all relevant questions.
The fact that the topic of lightweight construction was anchored in the coalition agreement of the government formed in 2018 demonstrates the need for such an initiative. In the head office, we coordinate work in the political committees of the advisory board and in the Lightweight Construction strategy group of the state organizations.
In addition, we organize the “Lightweight Construction Forum”, a platform for the exchange between different initiatives, associations, organizations and decision-makers with different perspectives on the topic of lightweight construction. This is where players meet to support and pursue the political direction being taken in order to meet the set objective.
We focus on supporting the draft of position papers, association work and addressing medium-sized companies in particular in order to sustainably implement the topic of lightweight construction.
Furthermore, the LIGHTWEIGHT CONSTRUCTION ATLAS belongs to the service portfolio of the Lightweight Construction Initiative. This is an interactive web portal that gives a good overview of the regions in Germany in which lightweight construction competencies are present. The head office is constantly working on further developing this portal.
